I was born in Highland Park, Michigan, the oldest of four children. My mother was a homemaker and my father a businessman who worked long hours. Mom and dad were both depression babies and children of Greek immigrants. Mom was an only child with a stay-at-home mother and resourceful father who managed a modest but comfortable living even in the hardest of economic times, but my dad’s situation was very different. Being one of five children with a disabled father and a mother who barely spoke English, he and his family grew up in poverty. He and his siblings peddled papers in Detroit from the age of eight to bring money home to help support the family.

My dad and his family’s experience growing up has greatly influenced my perspective of family, work and money. I have personally and professionally observed the benefits, burdens and complications that wealth, and the lack of it, imposes on families. I bring that perspective and experience, along with volumes of technical knowledge, to each and every estate and business planning engagement.

I earned my degree in accounting from Michigan State University (1992) and my law degree from the University of Detroit (1995). Following law school I worked for five years as a CPA with two local accounting firms. After leaving public accounting I worked for two local law firms until 2008 when I formed my own practice.

I enjoy the personal and business relationships I have developed with my clients and business colleagues over the years. I pride myself in helping my clients organize their personal estate and business affairs by offering practical solutions for them and their families to avoid or minimize unnecessary government processes and taxes.

My wife and I live in Beverly Hills, Michigan. We have two children (ages 11 and 14). When I am not helping raise my family, I enjoy fishing, hunting and downhill skiing. I am also an avid reader of historical fiction and philosophy.

I did my undergraduate collegiate work at Michigan State University. I graduated from Michigan State, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science/Public Administration, with high honor, in 1978. I then went on to the University of Michigan Law School, from which I received my Juris Doctorate degree in 1985.

I began my career practicing law in 1985, initially working for two mid-sized law firms, then as a solo practitioner for seven years. I then moved on to become in-house corporate counsel for three businesses, and then came back into the private practice of law in 2007. Through this time and in these practice settings, I gained a breadth of knowledge and experience in the substantive law and in the practice of law that serves me well every day.

Over the years I focused my practice on transactional business, corporate and real estate matters, and I developed a particular expertise in commercial real estate transactions. I have engaged in sophisticated transactions involving real estate and business acquisitions, dispositions, financing, leasing and management, as well as complex construction, development, general commercial, secured, banking and licensing transactions, along with corporate and other entity governance practice. My years in practice and particular focus and experience in transactional legal matters have brought me a high level of knowledge, expertise and competence in the areas in which I practice.

I live with my wife in Troy, Michigan. We have two grown daughters, both of whom we are extremely proud of, one being teacher and the other a social worker. I enjoy watching and participating in sports of all kinds, traveling and exercising.
